The subject of the assignment contract is the rights that, by law or for practical reasons, a creator cannot manage alone.
The assignment contract:
- is non-exclusive, meaning that, in practice, you may grant a licence for any rights yourself, alongside OSDEL;
- has a term of three years and is automatically extended unless you notify us that you do not wish to extend the contract at least three months before its expiry date.
- You may assign all or part of the rights contained in the contract to OSDEL.
- You may terminate the contract or withdraw any specific right at any time. Termination takes place by notification in writing and becomes effective three months after receipt of the notice by the organisation.
Contractual partners may include writers, poets, translators, columnists, journalists, illustrators, anthologists, etc. They may also include scientists or academics of all disciplines who, although writing is not their main profession, write and/or contribute to books and/or articles. NOTE: Editors of literary works are not considered creators and do not participate in the distribution of royalties.
A sample creator’s contract is available here.
In the case of creators who are deceased, a contract may be signed by their heirs. A sample heir’s contract is available here .
Lastly, in the case of creators who are minors, a contract may be signed by their guardians. Once a minor under guardianship reaches adulthood, the creator should contact OSDEL to conclude a contract directly with the οrganisation. A sample guardian’s contract is available here .
