Reproduction Rights Organisations (RROs) represent authors and publishers who are also copyright holders. At the same time, however, they contribute decisively to the cohesion and development of civil society by providing and ensuring:
• Lawful access to copyright material It is easier for users to obtain the necessary copyright licences from a single source – the Reproduction Rights Organisation (RRO) – for large-scale reprography and multiple digital uses.
• A healthy publishing market On the one hand, authors are supported, as their creativity is encouraged and protected through the assurance of fair remuneration for them and, on the other hand, incentives are provided to publishers to continue investing in new products and services.
• Promotion of the Greek culture, as well as intercultural ties Copyright and related rights help a country protect its national tradition and at the same time foster cultural, scientific and educational innovation. As the local market is typically the only source of livelihood for the country’s authors and the only return on investment for publishers, its proper functioning is an essential prerequisite for a flourishing national culture and the preservation of its distinctive qualitative characteristics.
